How to keep my dog healthy

Much depends on the dog, and the best advice would come from your vet. But out of my head, I'd say proper diet and LOTS of company rank very high on the list. Love the dog, take him for a walk, talk to him. here have some tips on how to keep my dog healthy.

Give your dog good quality food. He doesn't have to be the most expensive or even grain-free, but meat should be the first ingredient and he should avoid any food brands that list unnamed animal sources. Example: animal meal instead of chicken meal, beef meal, etc. Big red flag.

Make sure your dog has access to plenty of freshwaters.

Make regular visits to the vet. It is much cheaper to fix a problem that is just beginning, rather than an emergency.

Don't be afraid to give your dog fruits and vegetables as treats. Some good ones are carrots, red bell peppers, sweet potatoes, bananas, apples, mangoes, and blueberries. Avoid grapes/raisins as they are known to cause kidney failure in dogs.

Make sure your dog has plenty of toys. For the mental health of your dog, it is very important that he has many things to keep him busy.

Chuck It brand balls are great and can double as a chew toy due to how durable they are. Chuck It brand Frisbees are a great toy for you and your dog to use together. Kong chew toys are good for satisfying your dog's natural desire to chew. Avoid giving toys that are so hard that you cannot dent them slightly with your fingernail.

Avoid giving your dog rawhide treats. Once they have been chewed enough, your dog may swallow the rawhide and there is a possibility of an intestinal blockage. Also, the way they are made seems quite toxic.

Instead of rawhide treats, give your dog the Whimzees brand for a chew that is edible and clears the teeth. There are also many other similar brands that you can choose from.

Brush your dog's teeth! If you don't feel comfortable doing this, be sure to take him to the vet to have his teeth cleaned regularly. It is very sad to see dogs without teeth.

Study the body language of dogs. It is important to know if a dog will react well to another dog or person before they are close enough to cause harm, and seeing the warning signs beforehand can prevent you and others from being bitten.

Socialize your dog with many different people and dogs. Not having a well-socialized dog can be a nightmare.

Train your dog to properly tag on the leash. Failure to do so could cause injury to you or the dog. Also, it seems ridiculous to see someone dragged by their dog. They should both be able to enjoy walks.

Stay away from retractable straps. They are not resistant and there is a possibility that your dog is in danger even before you have time to react.

Honestly, I could probably list about 20 more things, but I feel like I'm digressing right now. If you have any questions that are more specific in the future, I will be more than happy to answer them.

GOOD LUCK!
